Power and Finesse

Caspian Series 4G uses a new authoritative and intelligent Class AB amplifier architecture known as Euphoria. There is much more to sound quality than harmonic distortion and noise floor, although these remain important factors. Roksan prioritises intermodulation distortion and ensures that both harmonic and intermodulation distortion remain flat across frequency and load. The result is a sound that is purer, cleaner, and more detailed.

A power amplifier consists of two main sections that interact with each other but have very different characteristics. One section increases the voltage of the signal to the level required to drive the speaker, while the other increases the current needed to drive the speaker’s low impedance.

Both sections have been carefully analysed and improved by Roksan’s engineers. Within Caspian Series 4G, two separate bespoke power supplies are used, each independent of the other. Headroom on the voltage stage has been increased so that, regardless of how hard the amplifier is driven, this section does not voltage-clip.

Soft-clip Behaviour

This intelligent amplifier power supply architecture delivers exceptional clipping behaviour. It has been tuned through extensive listening sessions to extract the maximum sound pressure level from speakers before any perceptual degradation of audio occurs.

Using a Pre-Amplifier and Power Amplifier together provides clearer signal management, lower noise, and greater upgrade flexibility compared to an integrated amplifier. Separating the stages reduces noise and interference by isolating delicate signal processing from high-current power amplification.

Each unit is optimised for its specific function, with the Pre-Amplifier handling source selection and volume control while the Power Amplifier focuses solely on driving the speakers. This approach also allows independent upgrades and enables larger, dedicated power supplies for each function, minimising electrical interference and improving overall performance.

The pinnacle of system configuration and uncompromising sound quality is achieved by using multiple Power Amplifiers in mono-block format. Running Power Amplifiers in mono-block mode delivers commanding power, separation, and control that significantly surpasses an integrated amplifier. Each Power Amplifier handles a single channel with fully independent circuitry and power supply, virtually eliminating crosstalk. Mono-block operation supports increased power delivery, improved handling of demanding speaker loads, enhanced stereo imaging, and greater placement flexibility by allowing amplifiers to be positioned closer to the speakers. Electrical and mechanical interference are further minimised through isolated operation, benefiting grounding and heat dissipation.
