The Gryphon name and logo are inspired by the fabulous creature of Greek mythology with the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion. This perfect union of the Power of the Lion with the Grace of the Eagle is an appropriate symbol of the forceful elegance we strive to achieve in Gryphon audio equipment.
Flemming E. Rasmussen
Gryphon Audio Designs was established in 1985 by Flemming E. Rasmussen in Denmark, embodying a no-frills, minimalist philosophy combined with an industrial brutalist aesthetic. The company’s products are meticulously designed and crafted in Denmark, showcasing Rasmussen’s commitment to high-quality audio engineering. Rasmussen, a graduate of the Aarhus Art Academy with a degree in painting and graphic arts, forged strong ties with the local music scene during his studies, designing LP covers and concert posters for numerous prominent artists.
After completing his education, Rasmussen taught photography and painting for a decade before transitioning to the role of chief designer for textiles and imprints at Scandinavia’s largest sportswear manufacturer. He eventually rose to the position of president of the company’s printing plant. Following his resignation, Rasmussen founded 2R Marketing, which swiftly became Denmark’s leading high-end audio import company, setting the stage for the creation of Gryphon Audio Designs.

Founding
Founded in 1985 as a spin-off from 2R Marketing, Gryphon Audio Designs began with the Gryphon Head Amp, initially a personal project. After attracting attention at the 1986 Chicago Consumer Electronics Show and gaining recognition in Japan, the brand formalised its existence. By 1993, Rasmussen focused entirely on Gryphon, which quickly gained acclaim for its performance, ergonomics, and luxurious design, blending fine arts and industrial design for a unique audio experience.

Rasmussen chose the name Gryphon for his company to symbolise both unlimited power and graceful ease, reflecting how his products capture the full subtleties of recorded music. Advanced Manufacturing
The Gryphon design team, typically made up of 4-5 experts in electronics, mechanics and software, works alongside audiophiles to refine designs based on auditory experience, even when no scientific explanation is available. Gryphon products are crafted in Denmark, with key components sourced from military-grade suppliers for advanced manufacturing. Each module undergoes extensive testing, followed by a 48-hour burn-in and further performance checks to ensure the highest standards of quality.
