Removing loudspeaker ‘pips’
To avoid confusing the 4mm speaker plus with a continental style mains plus, amplifier and speaker makers fit small plastic removable ‘pips’ (or more technically blanking plugs), to stop someone accidentally plugging a continental style plug in to their equipment!
Sadly, this can be a little inconvenient when we want to use better quality 4mm plugs on our loudspeaker cables.
Thankfully, these pips are very easy to simply remove.
First, locate the knobs on the shaft as shown here.
Unscrew and remove these temporally.
With your finger nail, or a small screw driver, simply flip out the small ‘pips’ (blanking plugs from the shaft.
And replace the knobs!
Your speaker or amplifier can now accept the 4mm plugs.
