Ruark are back... and they brought speakers

Brian Trinh |

The exciting new Ruark R610 music console and Ruark Sabre-R speakers are something cool, something fun, and really something to be excited about, and we’ve been lucky enough to get an ears-on experience with this neat little unit!

Ruark, in recent years, have been known for making radios—and very good ones for sure.

But this is Ruark going back to its roots, and this is a statement of intent.

Ruarks have the looks, the charm, and importantly, the sound quality and reliability, making them our recommendation for anyone looking for a damn good radio or an excellent second system that fits into your living room, kitchen, or wherever you want to get music into your home.

But what is this combination from Ruark that has gotten us so excited about?

The Ruark R610 is a single-box music console that hits all the points that you’d want and expect of an entry-level Hi-Fi when you pair it with the also new Ruark Sabre-R bookshelf speakers.

At only 290mm high, the size deceives the reality of the sound that comes from these speakers.

Now, not forgetting what Ruark is known for nowadays, it of course has a DAB tuner but has analogue and digital inputs. Also, importantly, it has an eArc HDMI, meaning this Ruark R610 can go straight underneath the TV and be used to instantly upgrade your TV sound and bring it more in line with your Hi-Fi. At only H95 x W300 x D280mm and 4.1 kg, the R610 should slot neatly into most cabinets with relative ease.

The Bluetooth HD aptX receiver allows for sending music wirelessly from your phone, laptop, or any other capable devices wirelessly, without the hassle of cables. If you are using services like Spotify, Tidal, or Apple AirPlay 2, you are all set to go.

We also found that there is a MM phono pre-amp, which comes as a standard, meaning for those who have turntables or want to get into the addictive hobby of record hunting and collecting, you won’t be left out.

As you can see, the Ruark R610 continues the now standard look of their products, with wooden panelling on the front and a soft casing on top. It has an extremely sturdy-looking feel and touch and has good weight, but is soft and easy on the eye. The control unit on top is not removeable, but the unit comes with an identical-looking remote control.

Ruark went to town to create continuity with their products for those already embedded in their eco-system. For others, it’s a great-looking remote.

For those wondering about the finishes, the Ruark R610 will release in their walnut and charcoal finishes, which, if you are familiar with their products, know is sleek and stylish and not at all a finger print or dust magnet!

The 5-inch colour TFT screen on the front is bright and vibrant, making reading what’s playing easy.

So far, so good, but after all this information, you’re wondering, what does it actually sound like?

The 75W of class D amplification of the R610, paired with the aesthetically pleasing and matching Ruark Sabre-R speakers, are a true joy and pleasure to listen to. Listening to a variety of rock tracks, you really feel and hear the separation from the guitars, vocals, and drums.

Each thud of the kick drum really punctuates the music, and the rides have a beautiful amount of sharpness and clarity.

What truly does impress is that the combination does a superb job of filling a small to medium-sized room with music. Closing your eyes, you’d think that you have a much larger system in front of you, and that is what the system truly excels at. It feels like the music in the room, for lack of better words, is meant to be.

Put simplify, the R610, with its relatively small footprint, stunning good lucks will fit into the current lifestyle and aesthetics of modern homes, and provide the functionality and usability, making it a great choice for those wanting an easy to use system that not only looks great, but sounds great!

If you are interested in the Ruark R610 music console releasing in November 2024, it retails at £1200, with the matching speakers coming in at £699. Speaker cables come supplied with the music console, making it simple for you to hook up to your existing speakers, but as a package, we think £1899 will be a winner.

We would highly encourage you to book a demonstration to hear this combination upon release and are positive that you too will be impressed by these.
