Complementing KEF's already impressive LS Wireless range, the new KEF LS-LUXE wireless speaker system has arrived.
We've had the opportunity to spend some time with a pair ahead of launch and put them through their paces.
Wireless Active Speakers
As a fully active wireless speaker system, the LS-LUXE only requires mains power. Music streaming is built in, with support for TIDAL, Spotify, Qobuz, Amazon Music, Apple AirPlay, Google Chromecast and more.
Around the back you'll find HDMI eARC, optical (TOSLINK) and coaxial digital inputs, along with dedicated subwoofer outputs for anyone wanting even more low-end performance.
So, what does this mean in practice? If you're looking for a simple way to enjoy high-quality music without a rack full of separates, the LS-LUXE offers an elegant solution. Whether you're streaming your favourite albums or using them as a TV sound system, they deliver hi-fi performance with minimal fuss.
Part of the Family
Designed by renowned industrial designer Ross Lovegrove, the KEF LS-LUXE combines distinctive styling with the acoustic engineering KEF is known for.
From the early promotional images, we expected the LS-LUXE to be noticeably larger. In reality, they're only fractionally bigger than the LS50 Wireless II.
Sonically, they retain the familiar KEF character, but with an effortless sense of scale. They fill a room with ease, producing a confident, expansive presentation that belies their size.
Listening
Testing pre-launch, we were only able to run these with Bluetooth, as the product had not yet activated through the KEF Connect application. Without going through the "onboarding" process, we weren't able to run the Velocity Control Technology (VEVO) to tune the sound to our room, so we expect the speakers will sound even better once it has been fully calibrated.
We started with Lose Yourself to Dance and Give Life Back to Music by Daft Punk. Straight away, the speakers impressed with their dynamic presentation, punchy bass and ability to energise the room. Electronic and dance music, in particular, feels right at home on the LS-LUXE.
Switching to UMI's Remember Me, the speakers revealed a warmer, more relaxed side. Vocals were smooth, while guitars retained plenty of texture and bite without becoming harsh.
Jamie Lenman's Body Popping showcased the LS-LUXE's rhythmic qualities, delivering plenty of drive and keeping the track feeling fast, engaging and fun.
How they compare
Compared with a traditional hi-fi system comprising the KEF R3 Meta partnered with the Arcam A25+ integrated amplifier and Chord Company RumourX speaker cable, the LS-LUXE presents music with a more immediate, energetic character.
The KEF R3 Meta and Arcam combination remains the more revealing and refined system, uncovering greater subtlety and nuance.
