The Michell Gyro has never stood still. Since its debut in the early 1980s, it has evolved through countless incremental refinements, each calculated to improve performance while retaining the original design ethos. Over the decades, its silhouette became iconic, its sound revered, and its place in high-end analogue playback history assured.

This latest Gyro is the most significant —not a reinvention, but a reimagining of everything beneath the surface. It's a ground-up engineering overhaul that delivers dramatic improvements in performance, usability, and long-term reliability—while staying true to the Gyro's unmistakable form.

You know it's a Gyro at a glance, but look closer and listen, and you'll realise just how much is entirely new.

A Chassis Redefined

At the heart of this new Gyro is a complete reworking of the main chassis. Where previous versions used cast aluminium, Michell now use precision-machined, 19mm aerospace-grade aluminium tooling plate. This material change alone delivers unrivalled accuracy, rigidity, and a low resonance level that was not thought achievable.

Embedded brass weights—carefully calculated and positioned—help balance the tonearm assembly while absorbing vibrational energy. Around the tonearm mount, foam damping inserts suppress reflections, ensuring the stylus/vinyl interaction isn't hampered or the fine musical details masked.

The Best Gyro Ever Made

This is the Gyro evolved — not just in how it performs, but in how it makes you feel.

Every update was made with one purpose: to let the music come through with more focus, more energy, and more emotional connection. To give you a turntable that feels alive — and invites you to slow down, listen deeper, and lose yourself in the moment.

It’s the Gyro. Just more of everything that made you love it in the first place.

Precision Power, Perfect Isolation

Gyro's motor system is engineered for absolute stability and silence. The heavy, freestanding motor housing is completely independent from the turntable — its only connection is the drive belt. This physical separation dramatically reduces the transfer of motor vibration to the sensitive playback components, preserving musical detail and clarity.

Both the motor unit and its matching power supply are machined from solid billets of aerospace-grade aluminium, forming exceptionally rigid enclosures with minimal gaps to block unwanted RF interference. The entire system is fully grounded and linked via a shielded interconnect, ensuring a pristine signal path and outstanding audio purity.

Tonearm Options

Tecnoarm 2 (premium option)

The TecnoArm 2 is designed to offer a truly audiophile listening experience at exceptional value for money and easily competes with tonearms at three times the price!

Utilising a custom one piece arm tube, the tube is first shot - blasted to change the sonority (ringing tone) of the tube, Michell then drill 22 holes in the tubes underside to reduce it's mass. The underside of the integral head shell is machined to be perfectly parallel with the bearing position. The tonearm is then assembled using the new ultra-low friction polymer bearings and mounted on a redesigned mounting base.

The TecnoArm 2 is wired with our proprietary wiring loom and 99.9999% pure silver litz wire, from cartridge tags to phono plugs, with no internal wiring joints.

The TecnoWeight counter weight allows you to set the tracking force for your chosen cartridge easily and our new VTA/SRA adjuster sets the height of your tonearm, helping you ensure the stylus tracks the vinyl groove at the correct angle.

The TecnoArm 2 has been designed to offer a truly audiophile listening experience with exceptional value for money. This is a tonearm that can easily compete with others three times the price!

T8 Tonearm

The T8 is a class leading tonearm, capable of retrieving even more information from your beloved vinyl collection.

The T8 tonearm is a big step up in performance from the T2. Featuring a new aluminium vertical bearing housing, redesigned sleeve, and vertical bearing shaft, now both made of stainless-steel.

These improvements mean stability and overall rigidity have been vastly improved over the T2, controlling unwanted vibration, movement and resonance to a higher degree.

The T8 tonearm utilises precision hand matched bearing assemblies and a highly advanced arm tube design, giving even fewer points of possible resonance.

Wired with low mass copper internal wiring, bespoke low capacitance phono cables, and high-quality phono plugs. The T8 is a class leading tonearm, capable of retrieving even more information from your beloved vinyl collection.

T2 Tonearm

Every aspect of this new tonearm has been improved over its predecessor, from improved ergonomics and usability to overall sonic performance. The latest T2 Tonearm design takes full advantage of the arm tube and the current three point arm mounting system.

Each T2 is meticulously hand assembled, creating a precision crafted tonearm achieving extremely low friction levels and performance way beyond the expectations of a product at this price point.

This level of care ensures perfect tracking and maximises the amount of information the cartridge can extract from the record surface.

The T2 now employs wiring developed for our T8 tonearm, and has low capacitance phono cables terminated in high quality Neutrik phono plugs.

Cartridge Options

Developing your own range of cartridges is no easy task. It requires a lot of research and know-how. Knowing what you want from a cartridge is one thing... producing one is a different matter. Michell wanted to produce three, so they decided to bring in experts.

Michell found a partner with a long history of creating world-class high-end cartridges and decided to start with our top-of-the-range Cusis M.

Having decided that a moving coil cartridge was the only option to deliver the realism and neutrality that they were shooting for, our partners then suggested stylus profiles, cantilever materials, and coil materials and designed a bespoke generator that would deliver a truly high-end presentation.

Michell then set about designing an enclosure that would allow the generator to perform at its best. Michell has a wealth of engineering and material experience, and they had already planned a cartridge body with our initial partnership with Benz, so they decided to use that design but produce it using carbon-loaded acrylic. Michell have used this material extensively in our turntable platters and found it to be acoustically perfect as it dampens resonance and massively reduces airborne vibrations.

To control internal resonances and vibrations from the tonearm, they knew the cartridge needed a large, rigid chassis with high mass. Michell chose a single piece of machined aluminium, which gave us the mass they required and the ability to attach the generator, body, and terminal plate easily.

After the initial testing of the prototype, they began fine-tuning each part of the cartridge and really developing our knowledge of what it takes to make a great cartridge.

This was the longest part of the process, with hours of listening and deciding what components to change or modify to get the perfect balance.

Michell developed the Cusis M without allowing cost to become a factor. They were only interested in maximum performance. The result is a cartridge that delivers a performance worthy of the finest turntables and tonearms available at any price.

Once the Cusis M was completed, Michell began to develop two more cartridges based on the Cusis M, but aimed at lower price bands. This resulted in a range of moving coil cartridges that cover all price points and offer best-in-class performance.

An array of five-star reviews and group test winners testify to the years of development that went into creating the Michell Cusis Moving Coil cartridges.
