The Chord Company PowerARAY offers advanced noise reduction and absorption devices. Similar to the highly regarded GroundARAY units, the PowerARAY can be connected to unused mains power sockets—whether on a wall or distribution block—next to those used to power hi-fi equipment. By providing a low-impedance path for high-frequency (HF) noise, it significantly reduces the amount of unwanted interference entering a hi-fi system.
Very high-frequency noise is ubiquitous, yet often overlooked. This type of noise can adversely affect the performance of audio and video equipment. The mains feed in most domestic listening rooms originates from a long line of power delivery cables, which are vulnerable to picking up unwanted noise. Once the power reaches the home, it is routed to both the audio system and various other household appliances, further increasing the likelihood of HF noise contamination. The unshielded nature of these power delivery cables makes them particularly susceptible to noise on the live, neutral, and earth lines.
The PowerARAY is designed to reduce high-frequency noise as effectively as possible, improving the quality of the mains supply before it reaches a hi-fi system. The ideal position for a PowerARAY is in a spare wall socket or a distribution block, placed next to the power cables feeding the audio equipment. The device operates in parallel to the power supply, ensuring no current flows through it, and is optimised to filter out as much HF noise as possible. Unlike series filtering, which could interfere with impedance and power delivery, the parallel approach guarantees no negative impact on system performance.
