A Timeless Charm
The LUXMAN PD-151 MARK II exemplifies the timeless charm of vinyl playback, establishing a new benchmark in functional beauty. Developed with the aim of offering music lovers a rich analogue audio experience, the PD-151 MARK II inherits the renowned qualities of its predecessor. Featuring a newly designed, highly sensitive tonearm, this model takes the belt-drive integrated analogue player to a higher level. With vinyl records continuing to gain popularity, the PD-151 MARK II offers a distinctive analogue listening experience that contrasts with the digital sound world, delivering audio purity and warmth.
New Tonearm Design
At the heart of the PD-151 MARK II is LUXMAN's original static balance tonearm, the LTA-309, equipped with knife-edge bearing technology developed by SAEC, a brand with over 40 years of expertise. The arm base, crafted from machined aluminium, ensures minimal contact area and reduces unwanted vibrations while maintaining rigidity. The LTA-309 includes fine-tuning mechanisms for stylus pressure, anti-skating, and adjustable arm height, enhancing playback performance. Its S-shaped design with an H4 bayonet mount headshell allows for seamless cartridge installation, including the LUXMAN LMC-5, offering flexibility in configuration.
Vibration Control and Precision Control
To maintain the purity of the low-level analogue audio signals, LUXMAN engineers have meticulously dampened the drive motor and power transformer inside the PD-151 MARK II to prevent vibrations from interfering with sound quality. The stability of platter rotation is paramount to achieving accurate musical pitch, and the PD-151 MARK II ensures this with a sine wave/Pulse Width Modulation power supply. Paired with a custom DC brushless motor and a Proportional-Integral-Differential (PID) feedback control system, the player achieves exceptional speed stability. This mechanism offers precise control over 33, 45, and 78RPM speeds with +/-6% pitch adjustment.
High-Mass Platter
The PD-151 MARK II boasts a 4.0kg precision-machined aluminium platter, diamond-cut for an impeccably smooth surface. Acting as a flywheel, the platter’s large moment of inertia guarantees stable rotation, while the supporting spindle and bearing system ensure long-lasting durability and minimal friction. The use of a PEEK-lubricated thrust bearing and a brass radial bearing, combined with molybdenum oil, provides excellent heat resistance and wear protection. To further enhance playback, the included turntable mat, made from vibration-absorbing rubber, ensures secure support for vinyl records.
Refined Aesthetics
Visually, the PD-151 MARK II follows LUXMAN’s signature design with a 10mm thick aluminium top panel featuring a refined hairline finish. The simplified control layout enhances functionality, with only essential elements like the tonearm, motor, and platter visible on the surface. Operational switches are integrated seamlessly into the front panel, offering ease of use and intuitive visibility. The combination of the aluminium top panel and matte black lower housing creates a sophisticated contrast.
Sold separately is an available and highly recommended, purpose built 4mm thick acrylic dust cover, equipped with cam/spring supporting hinges for easy opening and smooth closure.
LMC-5 Cartridge Option
The LUXMAN LMC-5 MC Cartridge represents a harmonious blend of LUXMAN's rich history and cutting-edge technology. Its development has been driven by a passion for preserving the authenticity of vinyl playback, offering listeners a cartridge that excels in both precision and musical expression. For those who appreciate the nuances of analogue sound, the LMC-5 is a testament to LUXMAN’s dedication to delivering the finest audio experiences.
LUXMAN’s latest phono cartridge, the LMC-5, is the result of over 40 years of expertise in vinyl playback. It has been meticulously designed to capture the full spectrum of musical detail pressed onto a record. At its core, the LMC-5 features a moving coil (MC) power generation system with a cross-mounted iron core and a compact magnetic structure, ensuring optimal efficiency. The cartridge also incorporates a finely tuned vibration detection system, utilising an aluminium cantilever and a SHIBATA stylus renowned for its exceptional tracking capabilities. This combination ensures a highly sensitive and precise performance, ideal for true vinyl enthusiasts who value musicality.
