ATC SCM40A Active Loudspeaker

The ATC SCM40a is an active three-way floor stand with a height of about 980 mm. The spikes add 25mm. The three drivers are designed by ATC. There is a soft dome tweeter, a 75mm soft dome  midrange and a 164mm woofer.. The speakers are capable of putting out 112dB with great ease which means even the most demanding tracks can be enjoyed without causing distortion. Each speaker uses three built-in power amplifiers (class-AB) that can deliver 242 watts of electrical power to the drivers.

The power amplifiers are controlled by an active crossover (4th order) with phase compensation. The frequency range is from 48Hz to 22kHz. For those who want to extend the listening skills to sub-low areas, there are still some much larger active ATCs available, but for 90% of the music to be played, this 40a is totally adequate.

To complete the set up, only a preamp is required or a streamer with a built in preamp. We have been using the DCS Bartok DAC as the streamer and preamp which really is quite brilliant.

ATC gives a 6-year warranty on these speakers. Grills are included. Colours are solid white, solid black, cherry and black with wood grain.
