The ATC SCM50 SL is the 2nd model in the classic range and typifies what ATC are famous for. This is large 3 way standmount loudspeaker that for some people will be the only loudspeaker they will ever need. It is  also available in a fully active version the SCM50 ASL and a tower version which increases cabinet volume to 70 litres. ATC fit the same driver units in both models.  The cabinets are hand crafted near the ATC headquarters in Stroud. Each cabinet is a piece of furniture using quality real wood veneers. The ATC SCM50 SL is relatively easy to accomodate in most homes but does benefit from a bit more space around it than an SCM40.

On first glance the drive units look very similar to that of the SCM 40 but appearances can be deceptive, the tweeter and mid are both improved versions and include improved magnet assemblies that give very audible improvements when in use. The bass driver is also slightly bigger.  The front ported design also leads to much greater sense of freedom both in the bass but also through the mid band. The sense of effortlessness is instantly apparent. Anyone that likes a speaker that reproduces scale and dynamics will love the SCM50SL. It isn’t instantly showy or impressive by boosting bass or treble in an unnatural way. It just unravels what is on the recording and presents it to you as it was recorded.
