Manufactured by Excel Sound Corporation, a 50 year old company based in Tokyo, who started off manufacturing low cost cartridges, such as the highly regarded Excel ES70 and by 1978 was producing MC cartridges, with particular expertise in high output MC cartridges and specializing in OEM cartridge manufacture. They are perhaps seen as one of those slightly underground Japanese companies - who certainly will not reveal which cartridge brands they have manufactured for over the years. They launched the Hana brand in 2015.

The Hana MC cartridges come with two different styli designs. The high performance Hana S range “SH” and “SL” cartridges use a nude natural diamond Shibata-stylus, capable of excellent high frequency response, giving supreme transparency and excellent trackability. This comes in two output options offering either High output 2.0mv/1KHz (SH) or Low output 0.5mv/1KHz (SL).
The lower cost E range "EH" and "EL" cartridges (same two High and Low output options as the "S" range) come with a synthetic Elliptical diamond styli, but nonetheless offer a highly competitive quality sound, referenced against similar priced cartridges.
The Hana SH Moving Coil cartridge has a nude natural diamond Shibata-stylus, and use high rigidity aluminum cantilevers with cross-shaped armatures offering supreme transparency and excellent trackability. The body is manufactured from a composite low resonance plastic material in black.
The SH (Shibata High output) offers 2.0mv/1KHz output.
