Rotel A8 Integrated Amplifier

The Rotel A8 Integrated Amplifier combines power, efficiency and value in a compact package. At its centre is a high-current, Rotel-made toroidal power transformer, delivering 40 watts per channel of Class AB power into 4 ohms from a chassis with a front panel just 60mm tall.

High-efficiency output transistors keep deep bass under control and maintain composure at all listening levels.

Connectivity and Control

The A8 has three line-level RCA inputs for analogue sources, plus a moving magnet (MM) phono stage for connecting a turntable directly. It is an analogue-only design, with no digital inputs or Bluetooth.

A front panel 3.5mm headphone output is included for private listening.

The supplied IR remote controls volume and source selection from your listening position, and also includes transport controls for Rotel CD players.

Personalisation and Flexibility

The A8's LED volume indicator can be set to red, green, blue or purple. The front panel includes bass, treble and balance controls, and 5-way binding posts on the rear panel provide flexible connection to your loudspeakers.

The A8 is available in black or silver.

Wharfedale Diamond 12.1i Bookshelf Speakers

Since its launch in 2020, the Wharfedale Diamond 12 Series has been widely regarded as a benchmark for performance and value among affordable hi-fi speakers, collecting a number of awards and positive reviews along the way. The Diamond 12i Series updates it with new finishes and a set of targeted acoustic refinements, while keeping the fundamentals of the original design.

Refined, Not Reinvented

Rather than reinventing the Diamond 12, Wharfedale's in-house team has concentrated on refining it.

The series is available in three new finishes:

• Deep Black: a semi-matte black finish with a clean, contemporary look.
• Classic Walnut with Semi-Matte Black Baffle: natural walnut paired with a contrasting black front baffle.
• Stone Grey: a semi-matte grey suited to minimalist interiors.

Revised Bass Port and Damping

Alongside the new finishes, Wharfedale's engineering team revisited the speaker's internals, concentrating on bass port tuning, airflow control and internal damping. The aim is clearer, better-controlled bass, particularly in real-world rooms.

The port redesign was led by Wharfedale's Director of Acoustic Design, Peter Comeau, with senior engineers Dan Bailey Ornellas and Oliver Davies. Development took several months and used laser interferometry, anechoic and in-room measurements, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to analyse airflow and pressure within the port, alongside hundreds of hours of listening tests. The result is tighter, more articulate bass, a smoother transition between the low and mid frequencies, and more consistent performance across a range of placements, while retaining the neutral balance of the original Diamond 12.

Klarity Cone Technology

The Diamond 12i's mid/bass cones are unchanged, and are made from Klarity, Wharfedale's blend of polypropylene and mica. The result is a lightweight, stiff and well-damped cone with low distortion, giving natural dynamics and precise transient response.

A low-damping surround improves the cone's efficiency and dynamic range, while ribbed shaping and profile simulation help maintain a smooth, linear frequency response.

Magnet Assembly

Each mid/bass driver uses a magnet system with an aluminium compensation ring, which reduces the effect of inductance changes as the voice coil moves. This minimises intermodulation and distortion from the motor system.

The voice coil is wound on an epoxy/glass fibre bobbin, which offers greater power handling, thermal stability and structural strength than the materials typically used at this price.

25mm Textile Dome Tweeter

High frequencies are handled by a 25mm woven polyester dome with a high-loss damping coating, giving an extended, smooth treble response. The front plate has a flat profile and minimal waveguide to improve dispersion and output, resulting in clear, natural high frequencies with good off-axis performance.

Crossover Components

The crossover uses a Linkwitz-Riley design with air-core inductors, components more commonly found in higher-end speakers. The network is tuned for minimal phase shift and smooth integration between the drivers.

The mid/bass driver's magnet structure has been modified to account for the resistance of these inductors, keeping bass fast and clean.

Low-Resonance Cabinet

Each enclosure uses a multi-layered sandwich construction to reduce panel resonance and distortion. Even the adhesive between the layers has been acoustically tested to optimise damping.

Inside, computer-modelled spot braces connect opposite cabinet walls, reducing vibration without transferring it from one panel to another.
